    JOINING AIFA

  • Apply for a Firearms Licence at your local police station with the endorsements A1, B1 and H1.
  • Attend your local Police Station with 100 points of ID.
  • Complete the Firearms Licence Application form (PD303).
    - H1 Handgun Club Use.
    - A1 & B1 Rifle and Shotgun Club Use.
  • Pay $94 for new applications and $56 for variation. This will be converted to a one year licence term upon approval. This fee is non-refundable.
  • Wait for the letter from the Police approving you to hold a Club licence (This takes a minimum of 28 days).
  • Acceptance of new members will require to produce 2 written references; and a criminal history report (such as a National Police Certificate)
    relating to the person provided by South Australia Police or the ACC.
  • Once you have received Police approval to hold a Club Licence, Natioanal Police Clearance, and 2 written references;
    complete the application form and return the documents to AIFA.
  • Pay the $320 up front fee for A1, B1 and H1 training.
  • Commence training with AIFA.
    - 1 X theory lesson
    - 7 X practical lessons
    - Lessons include course booklet and SAPOL exam to be completed.
  • Complete the Club training course. The Club documentation is then sent to SA Police. and a temporary licence
    will then be sent to you
  • Go to Services SA and pay the licence fee and have your photo taken.
    Your paper licence together with the receipt will be your temporary licence until you receive your photo licence in the mail
  • Direct debit of $46 per month commences. This includes:
    - AIFA Membership.
    - Unlimited range hire and firearm hire in club times.
  • Commence normal Club activities as an Ordinary AIFA Member

    YOU MUST MAINTAIN YOUR MEMBERSHIP WITH A CLUB AND COMPLETE A MINIMUM 6 COMPETITIVE SHOOTS TO MAINTAIN THIS LICENCE.

    Members FAQ

    Q. How many shoots do I need to complete?

  • If you do not possess any firearms, you must do minimum 6 competition shoots per year to maintain your licence.
  • If you possess multiple firearms of different categories, you must complete 4 competition shoots for each category per year.
  • You will be required as a H1 licenced AIFA member to provide SAPOL with a 'Club Chit' verifying the dates of your shoots when renewing your licence.
         This is your legal obligation as a responsible H1 firearms licence holder.
  • Q. When can I purchase my first handgun?

  • If you recently received your H1 firearms licence, you will need to wait 6 months from receiving your licence before you
         can purchase your first handgun. Then 6 months after that you can purchase your second handgun.
         You can purchase long firearms for club use once you have your A1 and B1 firearms licence.
  • Q. What will I need when purchasing a handgun?

  • You must provide SAPOL with a Club Chit with your PTA to purchase a handgun.
